Few of our Favorite Places
For us, the perfect day isn't just about the vertical meters we cover; it’s about the rhythm of the mountain. It’s the choice between a crisp morning on the world-class Piste de l'Ours or a long, winding journey toward Thyon or Siviez (or even beyond). But mostly, it’s about knowing exactly where to stop when the mountain air sharpens your appetite.
The Art of the Mountain Lunch
One of the greatest luxuries of this region is the quality of the mountain restaurants. We’ve spent years "researching" the best terraces, and a few remain our absolute favorites:
-
La Cambuse (Thyon 2000): This is a true institution. Whether you sit outside on the sunny terrace or in the cozy, traditional interior, the atmosphere is quintessential Swiss. Their focus on local Valaisan ingredients is exceptional—it’s the perfect place for a refined lunch before heading back toward Veysonnaz.
-
Aux Chottes: Located in a beautifully converted stable, this spot offers a more rustic, laid-back charm. It sits in a stunning natural bowl and is famous for its sun-soaked lounge chairs or ice grot. It’s our go-to for a relaxed plate of local dried meats and cheeses (assiette valaisanne) while watching skiers pass by.
-
Caboulis: Because it is located right on the red slope near our apartment, Caboulis feels like our local "place." It’s authentic, unpretentious, and serves exactly what you crave after a morning in the cold. It’s also a great spot for non-skiers to walk to from the village to meet the rest of the group for lunch.
